EMBROIDERY WORKS - OUR ORIGINS

Codewolf’s DNA is in embroidery and screen printing. In fact, Control was born out of Embroidery Works, a well-known decorator in the New Zealand industry.

With more than 20 years of experience in embroidery, screen printing and garment decorating, the company knows how production bottlenecks evolve and things get out of control. The importance of putting people and garments where they need to be at the right time was difficult with the manual software and spreadsheets they started out with.

Searching for a simpler and better way, Embroidery Works engaged software engineers and laid the foundations of what we know as Control today.  This is now proving to be an invaluable tool across the industry and also finding application in the manufacturing sector.

Embroidery Works started out in 1999 running a couple of embroidery machines. They grew steadily, adding screen printing in 2003 and transfer production in 2012. They are a contractor, selling decoration to resellers and retailers across New Zealand. They run 2 shifts, and approximately 80 staff depending on the season. Control has provided a structure and a process for them to scale and become the leading branding company in New Zealand.

At the time they were looking for a computer based system, most were good at accounts or reporting, but there was nothing about helping you with organising your factory. Most of the stress in a busy factory comes from a lack of communication about the work. What to do, and what to do next. The early parts of Control were developed out of this need to help people be more efficient and organised.

“Branding is a tough game, you are running machinery but more importantly you are selling people. Once you get to a certain size the people organisation and communication gets exponentially more difficult, and if you don’t have a platform to help with this as you grow it all gets worse. Helping your people by removing stress from your environment is key to consistent production. More importantly, people are happier, more engaged and ultimately more productive.” Mike Modgill, Embroidery Works
